PYROLYTIC STRIPPING OVENS

Pyrolysis stripping ovens, also known as thermal stripping systems or “strippers,” are designed to clean metal parts through pyrolysis. Their main function is to remove surface coating residues, such as paints and varnishes, from metal structures used in painting or varnishing processes, including racks, hooks, hangers, and workpiece holders. With continuous use, these supports accumulate a thick layer of coating, making them unusable.

KERN SD has extensive experience in the design, manufacturing, and implementation of pyrolysis stripping ovens, ensuring efficient and safe solutions.

TECHNOLOGY

The stripping process is carried out by heating the parts to approximately 480 °C in a low-oxygen atmosphere. At this temperature, the organic matter in the paint or varnish decomposes into smaller, volatile molecules in a phenomenon known as pyrolysis.

The gases generated during this process contain volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, and soot particles, as the combustion of organic matter is incomplete. To prevent polluting emissions, these gases are directed to a post-combustor located behind the oven, where they are exposed to 850 °C in the presence of oxygen, ensuring their complete oxidation into carbon dioxide (CO₂) and water vapor. As a result, the gases emitted into the atmosphere are completely transparent and harmless.

Controlling the temperature inside the oven is crucial to prevent damage or deformation of the parts. In KERN SD ovens, this control is achieved by adjusting the burner power. Additionally, if the oven load ignites and the temperature becomes uncontrolled, the system automatically activates an internal water spray to extinguish the fire and restore optimal temperature conditions.

Furthermore, the oven includes an intelligent detection system for the end of the work cycle, which automatically stops the process as soon as the combustion of organic matter is completed. This allows each stripping cycle to be precisely adapted to the amount of residue present, optimizing time and energy consumption.

Thanks to this advanced control system, KERN SD ovens operate fully automatically, offering efficiency, safety, and sustainability in the pyrolysis stripping process.
