Poly aluminium chloride, commonly known as PAC, is an inorganic coagulant derived from aluminium chloride. Its chemical formula is Aln(OH)mCl(3n-m), where n varies depending on the degree of basicity of the product. This element is generally in liquid form, although it can also be found in powder form. Its main function in water treatment is the coagulation and flocculation of suspended particles.
KERN S&D plants respond to a worldwide need, which is the on-site industrial production of small volumes of Chlorine and chlorinated products such as Poly aluminium chloride.
KERN S&D has an innovative PAC 18 production technology, by continuous reaction of alumina with an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid – this reaction takes place in a vitrified reactor; the discharged product is filtered by separating unreacted alumina and insolubles; finally the clarified product is transferred to tanks where it is stored to the specification required by the customer.
KERN S&D use safe, environmentally friendly and highly competitive technology due to their low investment and low operating costs (high electrical efficiency and degree of automation). KERN S&D’s technology complies with the Community Directives on Best Available Technologies (BAT) for chlor-alkali production (Directive 2010/75/EU).
