CONDENSATION WATER DESALINATION PLANTS

Water is one of the planet’s most precious resources and, according to the UN, its scarcity already affects more than 40% of the world’s population. This is a fact that has set alarm bells ringing and has prompted the search for solutions. One of them, and not exactly new, is desalination, which consists of removing minerals (mainly salt) from seawater by means of physical and chemical processes.

KERN S&D has extensive experience in the design and construction of condensing desalination plants through an innovative system that includes an Energy Hill.

TECHNOLOGY

The process developed by KERN S&D for the desalination of seawater includes an Energy Hill with the following elements that make it 100% sustainable:

  • Photovoltaic plant: the solar energy generated is used for pumping and the desalination process
  • Electrical storage system : vanadium redox flow battery for storing surplus energy
  • Turbine + generator: the fresh water flowing down the hill turns the blades of a turbine, which activates a generator that transforms the mechanical energy into electrical energy
